Final Project Walkthrough

Here is the Link to my final project: http://www.kongregate.com/games/hackedlegion/gdd-200-final-project

For my final project, there was no real story line to the game it was just me getting used the unity engine. Here is a simple walk through of my game starting from the first level.

The first level is a very simple obstacle course where you are a toon character controlled in the third person and your objective is to just get to the end of the course in order to proceed to the next level. Here are some screen shots of what the game looks like and keep in mind you can take any route to get to the end, some are just harder than the others.

Take what ever route you please, they will all get you to the end

Keep  in mind that some routes are harder than others

Here is the ending, you will just have to travel into the end space that is a dead end and it will advance you too the next level.

WARNING!

My next too levels are first person shooters. As for the screen shots I was not able to capture good ones for when I went to take a screen shot of what you were doing in the game the game would just look right at the ground or up into the sky. However, I believe screen shots are not necessary for both of the next levels have the same objective.

Level 2:
Work your way through the maze killing all in your path. Collect the cube and go to the room all the way at the end of the level and it will advance you to the third level.

Level 3:
This map is a lot smaller and looks like an alien planet. The sole object of this map is to survive and get to the finish while wiping out as many enemies as you can. Use cover as your friend and try to pick them off at opportune times.

GOOD LUCK!

Overall, I think that this project has really warmed me up to the unity engine and I am very excited to start dabbling into more complex and harder things in the years too come.

Final Game Project Week 2

Here I want to outline some of the progressions that I have made on the final game project that we are working on. Instead of doing a roll a ball type game I changed it to using the toon character kit and made the first level of my game an obstacle course in which the user can run through and get a feel for the controls of the character. The camera is in the third person perspective and the characters controls are similar to that of car. Here are some pics of the game so far.
Here is a picture of one of the toon characters running the course. This is one of many costumes.

Here is just image of the area surround the obstacle course and again getting a shot of map I created using the Tile Mapper

Roll-a-Ball Week 1

Here are some of my reference images that I want to pull from for the style and theme for my game. I want to make a sort of track based game where you are the ball and you have a certain time limit to get through the tracks in order to complete the level. The levels will progressively get harder and incorporate more skill to the user of the ball. I might possibly want to add a jump button so the levels may vary in different mechanics that add to the game.

Here is a simple image showing a track like feature that could be used in my game.

Here is another image of the ball jumping from platform to platform and also the time limit being shown.

A final image just finalizing my idea of different types of tracks and the time limit at the top challenging the player.

As for the next step in our process when we incorporate shooting and such things into the game. I want the levels to chage from being track course to battle arenas where the player will face other balls and the game will have power ups that can be picked up by players. Similar to mario karts arena mode. Here is a picture.

Midterm 2D RPG Final

Here is the complete version of my game "UNDERCOVER". I named it this because the premise of the story is that you are an undercover cop of this town trying to do good for the people after some unfortunate events happened. Here I will take you through a visual walk through of some of the key elements of my final game.
This is just the opening title screen where you select whether to continue or start a new game

After you leave the main characters house you can talk to this guy who will tell you of key somewhere in the west ghetto that unlocks the police station. Also other members of the community will also give you background to what happened in the town and give advice.

This is near the first monster area which is suggested to go to first to kill some enemies and also collect some  money to buy other weapons that will help you throughout the game.

Here is an overview image of the first monster area. Clear out this area to earn cash as well as collect some ammo for the shotgun which you can buy once you have enough money in the game at the black market(smiths) shop.

The chest is surrounded by thugs but holds loot that will help in purchasing newer weapons.

Here is where you want to go next. You will, however, notice that the police station is locked and that the black smith holds weapons that you will want to get before you travel to the west Ghetto. Which is on the west side of town.

Travel to the west ghetto and this is an overview image of what it holds. If you click on the picture you will see that the path leads to a house and in the bottom left corner there is a chest a key guarded by some thugs. Head for the key to unlock the police station and also get some more money.

Here is an image of gather the first key of the police station.

Once you open the police station you will go inside to find some thugs have taken over.

Here is an image of inside the police station and a bunch of thugs with another door inside (that is locked: requiring a second key) and the girl will tell you need to travel to the west ghetto in order to get it.

You travel back to the west ghetto and go into the house to find the main thug is actually the girl from town and there is the second key to get into the locked door within the police station.

A pic of the boss house where you get the second key. You dont have to fight the thugs

here is the second locked door within the police station that you must enter.

The boss level will prove to be a great challenge so have fun with this but it is fairly crazy. If you do happen to beat the boss (or run around him which i have to fix) you can talk to the girl and the door will bring you to the end screen.

There is the whole walk through to my game so I hope you enjoy it. It was fun to design and good way to warm up to making games. If I were to do this again I would have stuck with a medieval theme so modding the textures would have been easier to keep it within story. The boss at the end is extremely hard cause he spawns bats so that is easily the toughest part. I also wanted to add a money limit in order to get into the west ghetto as well as ammo trait for the pistol but did not get around to it.

Wk04 New Monster Area and Game Doc

Game Design Doc:
My game is centered around the player who is the main character of the story as well as an undercover cop. He dresses as if he is a gangster but really doesn’t look like he fits in. I want the game to have a more modern twist on it although I have come to find that it is rather hard to do since the starter kit already has a fantasy aspect to it. I started off by changing the main characters look to put him in modern clothes and then proceeded to modify the weapons that are used in the game. I gave the character modern weapons replacing the sword with a bloody kitchen knife to fit the gang them. I then replaced the bow with a shotgun and the wand with a pistol. In the blacksmith you will see that the prices have dramatically increased due to the modernization. The gems have also been transformed into stacks of cash that the enemy gang members will drop. I wanted to make a sort of retro looking Grand Theft Auto type game and I used Retro City rampage as a source of inspiration.
I wanted to modify some of the mechanics of the game as well, I plan on using an ammo system where players will only have a certain amount of bullets for their guns and it will cost them money in order to keep they stocked with ammo. I also want to mod some of the monsters or enemies to be able to shoot as well and maybe add another level of difficulty to the game. Right now it seems the game would be too easy if the enemies can only hurt you by running into you and I feel that it would be broken if you over splice the enemies in the areas where they are designated to be in.
As for the story of my game. Right now it is following this lead of doing various quests around the town in order to progress through the story. If you go around the town and talk to the citizens each will give you hints of things to do. For example, some will tell you that you need a certain amount of money to get passed the guard that guards the west ghetto. So if you try to go there you will find out whether that is true and how much money you actually do need to enter. Also I have added several areas in which players can explore such as a police station which has been overrun by thugs and a girl trapped inside. If she is rescued she will reveal to you that there is a key somewhere in the game that allows you to travel to the underground cellars of the station. So know you have to find a key, could it be in the west Ghetto? Who is leading all of these gangsters? Maybe she knows something about the key. All of these dialogues between the character and the npc’s will help the player progress through the story. In the end I want to have a boss battle as a final hurrah for the game.

Wk03 2DRPG more Modding

This week we had to work on the dialogue of the npc characters as well as a building and changing scenes between the town and enter buildings. We also had to modify the inside of one of the buildings. Here is what I was able to do.
Here you can see that if you go up to the boy in the town he will tell you that the police station was under attack and that a girl is trapped inside.

Here is a photo of the police station in which I just modified a sign to label it differently from the other buildings in town. When you enter the station you see what is in the picture below.

Here is a picture of the inside of the police station. I made a large desk as well as added a fire place. As you can see it has be overrun by quite a lot of thugs and your goal would be to save the girl in the back corner along with the reward of opening that chest. If you complete this task the girl will mention to you that there should be a key somewhere that you must find in order to get into the basement of the police station which is in the hallway that leads to the back. This is something that I will be completing for next weeks assignment.

Wk02 2DRPG Modding

This week we had to modify the 2D rpg kit a little to start and make it our own game. To start we had to modify the main character in which the player is playing as. We also had to change the weapons in which will be used in the game an enemy or enemies. Then finally a building.
Here you can see that I have changed all of the weapons that can be used in the game and gave them a more modern twist. Instead of having a sword the player now wields a bloody kitchen knife/ dagger. The bow and arrow now is a sawn off shotgun and the wand is now a pistol. You can also see in the top right hand corner I changed the currency of the game from gems to stacks of cash.

Here is a screen shot of an enemy change. Originally these guys were stone golems. Now they are stereotypical thugs to go along with the more modern theme. I find it to be a very funny looking twist the game.

Finally here is a picture of a building modification as well as a good clear picture of the main player character. Also you can see that I have modified the grass around it to make it darker and more lush feeling. Next week we will be changing the inside of the buildings and creating new scenes as you walk into buildings and what the npc characters will be saying to you.
